Memories of grandma’s house are usually pleasant for most people. Often there were sights and smells that are long remembered through the years. One item typically found in Grandma’s house was a curio cabinet stuffed with precious items. Many times these treasures were not to be handled and touched so the viewing of them is even more magical in our memory bank.
As time passes most of us notice that we have managed to acquire a few items of our own to display here and there. Perhaps a few of grandma’s items made their way into our home. Instead of placing the precious items that have come together in places that can be harmful many of us start wishing for a display cabinet of our own to place the items in. Then, we start thinking that they are old fashioned and went away like a favorite television show from our childhood.
Good news has arrived! Curio cabinet furniture can still be found and they are available in many styles and choices to go with homes today. Curio cabinets can be made of wood, steel, glass or shiny chrome. Many have lights to make the precious items on display even more prominent. Shelves can be adjusted to fit the various collections on display and many even come with locks on doors to keep little hands away from the precious goods stored inside. Selecting the right one takes a little consideration. What will you be showing, what else is in the room and how much space is needed? These are questions that need to be answered before making a final selection. Once the details have been settled it is time to get to the business of creating a place for memories to be made in your own home.
Determine the style and size carefully. You want a display instead of a storage box, so be sure to allow adequate space for things to look nicely displayed. Arrange items in a manner that will look nice and neat. Do not scrimp on space as you will constantly be adding to the collection as the years roll by. For example, if you now have 12 crystal rabbits to display you will probably add many more before the collection is finished so place them on a shelf with a lot of extra space to place more as the collection grows. many collectors find that gifts come their way very often in the form of little items to place in the curio cabinet.
Once the decisions on size, style and material are decided it is time to get the actual curio in place and have the display ready for your own grandchildren to gaze at with magical memories swirling around in their little heads. It seems the circle is complete and curio cabinets really are an important item in our homes and lives.
